Looking for a design-forward cultural experience in Miami? “From the Heart to the Hands: Dolce & Gabbana” remains on view at ICA Miami through June 14.
One of Miami’s most visually immersive cultural experiences remains on view for only a few more weeks.
“From the Heart to the Hands: Dolce & Gabbana,” currently showing at the Institute of Contemporary Art, Miami in the Design District, transforms fashion into a large-scale exploration of Italian craftsmanship, architecture, opera, cinema, and scenographic design.
A Design Experience Beyond Fashion

Featuring more than 300 pieces from Dolce & Gabbana’s Alta Moda, Alta Sartoria, and Alta Gioielleria collections, the exhibition unfolds through a series of immersive environments that feel closer to film sets and installation art than a traditional fashion retrospective.
Each room introduces a different visual language inspired by Italy’s artistic and regional traditions. Byzantine mosaics shimmer beside embroidered garments. Sicilian folklore appears through vivid colors and elaborate ornamentation. Roman-inspired spaces reference imperial grandeur and ecclesiastical pageantry, while sculptural white interiors reinterpret Sicilian Baroque architecture through couture.
One of the exhibition’s most striking spaces, “White Baroque,” translates the dramatic stuccowork of seventeenth-century Sicily into sculptural garments with sweeping silhouettes and architectural detail. Nearby, mirrored installations inspired by Venetian glassmaking reflect crystal embroidery and metallic gowns beneath theatrical lighting.
Italian Craftsmanship Takes Center Stage

Elsewhere, the tailoring and atelier rooms reveal the craftsmanship behind the finished pieces. Corsetry, embroidery, draping, sketching, and hand construction take center stage, highlighting the importance of Italian artisanal traditions and the enduring philosophy of fatto a mano, or handmade craftsmanship.
The exhibition also explores the relationship between fashion and other art forms. Opera, cinema, painting, and architecture appear throughout the presentation, creating environments that feel cinematic and emotionally immersive. References to Luchino Visconti’s The Leopard, Ancient Rome, Venetian mosaics, and Italian religious processions reinforce the exhibition’s broader dialogue between fashion and cultural storytelling.
Why the Exhibition Feels at Home in Miami

Miami proves to be a fitting destination for the exhibition’s American debut. Located within the city’s Design District, ICA Miami’s presentation feels naturally connected to Miami’s growing role as an international center for art, luxury, architecture, and design. The exhibition’s maximalist visual language, layered textures, and Mediterranean spirit resonate particularly well within the neighborhood’s contemporary design landscape.
Building on its European presentations, the Miami edition also introduces new Rome-inspired rooms unveiled following Dolce & Gabbana’s 2025 Alta Moda and Alta Sartoria presentations in Rome. These additions bring renewed focus to themes of spectacle, craftsmanship, and Italian historical memory.
Curated by Florence Müller, “From the Heart to the Hands: Dolce & Gabbana” ultimately moves beyond fashion exhibition territory. Instead, it functions as a multisensory design experience where couture, interiors, architecture, and storytelling merge into one immersive visual narrative.
