World Famous Los Trompos Experience at Shops at Merrick Park

Shops at Merrick Park 358 San Lorenzo Avenue, Coral Gables, FL, United States
Shops at Merrick Park, known for its pristine outdoor shopping with lush green spaces and a fine collection of retailers in the heart of Coral Gables, will once again host the world-famous Los Trompos art exhibition created by Mexican designers Héctor Esrawe and Ignacio Cadena. This interactive vibrant outdoor display will make its return to South Florida, captivating audiences from February 13 through March 21 for one month only. “Los Trompos,” which means "spinning tops" in Spanish, is a traveling exhibit that has been displayed in cities around the world, including Mexico City, Paris, and New York. The lively installation will feature eight larger-than-life, three-dimensional colorful spinning tops in a variety of colors and shapes that invite visitors to play and engage with the art. The art draws its inspiration from a toy that has been popular with children around the world since the dawn of time. The colorful surfaces of each top are created, in part, by fabric woven in a traditional Mexican style. The fabric is stretched over the modules to seat several people at once. Functioning as both artwork and a rotating platform, each sculpture acts as a gathering place for relaxation, social interaction and entertainment. This large-scale, artistic installation engages visitors in a way that is both meaningful and playful. By working together to create momentum, visitors can spin the tops on their bases. Los Trompos was first commissioned by High Museum of Arts, Atlanta. Owners of Los Trompos are DTE Energy Beacon Park Foundation and The Downtown Detroit Partnership. The tour producer is Creos. Los Trompos at Shops at Merrick Park is free to attend (no ticket required). Visitors are encouraged to take the tops for a spin, sit back and relax, or pose for the perfect photo opportunity. The exhibit is suitable for all ages. Here for a limited time, discover and explore this immersive experience before it’s too late! Blue Whales: Return of the Giants Premieres at the AutoNation® IMAX® 3D Theater at the Museum of Discovery and Science

AutoNation® IMAX® 3D Theater Museum of Discovery and Science 401 SW 2nd St., Fort Lauderdale,, FL, United States
The AutoNation® IMAX® 3D Theater at the Museum of Discovery and Science (MODS) will premiere Blue Whales: Return of the Giants starting on January 26, 2024. The first giant-screen film on the subject, Blue Whales, was produced by Oceanic Films in collaboration with Howard Hughes Medical Institute (HHMI) Tangled Bank Studios and SK Films and funded by the National Science Foundation (NSF). MODS is one of only a few Florida theaters with screens large enough to display life-sized blue whales. Blue Whales: Return of the Giants introduces audiences to the endangered species, which is not widely understood despite its status as the largest animal to have ever existed. Through two scientific expeditions, the film shows stunning footage of blue whale feeding habits, long-distance communication and mother-calf relationships. One expedition focuses on the search for a missing blue whale population off the coast of the Seychelles Islands in the Indian Ocean while the other expedition joins marine biologist Diane Gendron, also known as the “Blue Whale Whisperer,” in the Gulf of California to observe whale families. Narrated by award-winning actor Andy Serkis, scored by Academy Award-winner Steven Price, and presented in 3D, Blue Whales will immerse audiences in the ocean alongside the massive blue whales and other species such as dolphins, sperm whales, sea lions and orcas. The documentary also features research from local marine biologist Jeremy Kiszka, professor of biology at Florida International University in Miami, Florida. Dr. Kiszka studies the ecology and behavior of cetaceans (whales and dolphins) in tropical marine ecosystems around the globe, particularly in the Caribbean, along the coasts of Florida and in the Indian Ocean. To view the trailer, please visit BlueWhalesfilm.com. The AutoNation® IMAX® Theater at the Museum of Discovery and Science is located at 401 SW 2nd Street in Fort Lauderdale. Blue Whales: Return of the Giants is included in the MODS Discovery Pass, an all-in-one ticket that includes Museum exhibitions, live science demonstrations and one IMAX documentary film. “Visions of Women” Fine Art Exhibit by NLAPW Fort Lauderdale Branch at History Fort Lauderdale

History Fort Lauderdale 231 SW Second Avenue, Fort Lauderdale, FL, United States
History Fort Lauderdale presents “Visions of Women,” its first ever fine art exhibition from the National League of American Pen Women Fort Lauderdale Branch (NLAPW). This new exhibition will feature art from NLAPW award-winning artists/members Claudia Hafner, Judy Nunno, Phoenix, Donna Sallee, and Tammy Seymour from April 4 – 30. “Visions of Women” will feature a collection of artworks joined by the theme of “empowering women” and the subjects and causes that inspire them to motivate others. According to Phoenix, president of NLAPW, the conceptual basis for this exhibition was the 100th anniversary of the formal adoption of the 19th Amendment into the U.S. Constitution. Island City Stage Presents PULP by Patricia Kane

Island City Stage 2304 N. Dixie Highway, Fort Lauderdale, FL, United States
July 1956. A hot and humid Chicago. Enter Terry Logan, a tough-talking, rebellious seductive. When she takes up residence at The Well, a club run by women who love women, the trouble really begins. Take a nostalgic trip back to vintage Hollywood featuring femme fatales radiating sexy style with sass in PULP by Patrica Kane (featuring music by Amy Warren & Andre Pluess and lyrics by Patricia Kane) making its South Florida premiere from April 11 – May 5 at Island City Stage. Nominated for four Joseph Jefferson Awards including Best New Work, PULP is a heartfelt, comedic love letter to lesbian pulp fiction and the Barbara Stanwycks of the world. The San Diego Union-Tribune shared, "Highly recommended. A playfully sexy romp. And Logan soon yearns for Vivian, the mysterious, glamorous and seemingly untouchable owner of The Well. Through wisecracks, classic deadpan deliveries and clever double-entendres set to a 1950s period score, PULP will take audiences on a provocative and enjoyable journey of self-discovery and acceptance. Patricia Kane is a Chicago-based actress and award-winning playwright. In addition to PULP, she’s also penned Float, Seven Moves (adapted from the novel by Carol Anshaw) and Chords.
