On Wednesday, June 11, the Fort Lauderdale Downtown Development Authority hosted a special preview of the Reimagined Riverwalk for the generous donors and project partners who helped bring this vision to life. During the celebration, Steve Hudson, Chairman of the Huizenga Park Foundation, reflected on the history and impact of the project, highlighting how the Huizenga Park project is arguably the largest public investment in the Riverwalk since it was first opened in 1990. Attendees got to take the inaugural walk on the revitalized Riverwalk, blooming with over 315 new plants, 25 new canopy trees and palms, 249 reinstalled etched bricks, and the iconic 250-year-old Bicentennial Liberty Oak Tree. The full transformation of Huizenga Park will be completed by the end of 2025, and the area will become Downtown Fort Lauderdale’s signature gathering place, exquisitely designed, activated, safe and comfortable.
