American Heritage Schools’ Thanksgiving Food Drive Supports Feeding South Florida
Determined not to let its community go without a traditional Thanksgiving dinner, American Heritage Schools Upper School PTO Broward Campus, in partnership with students, faculty, and families, hosted its fifth annual “Thanksgiving Meal in a Bag” food collection drive at the School’s Broward campus. The drive benefited Feeding South Florida, the leading hunger-relief organization in the region. This holiday season, over 1.2 million individuals across Palm Beach, Broward, Miami-Dade, and Monroe Counties are experiencing food insecurity.
During the food drive, American Heritage Schools students were invited to bring a reusable grocery bag filled with one of each of the following items: cranberry sauce, canned yams, canned vegetables, canned beans, mac and cheese, rice, instant mashed potatoes, a box of pasta, stuffing mix, canned soup, packets of gravy, brownie mix, peanut or nut butter, and a gift card for a turkey.
At the 2025 event, American Heritage Schools collected 15,483 pounds of food—approximately 12,902 meals. In addition, 975 gift cards, five turkey certificates, and cash donations amounted to $19,835. The students’ combined contributions provided holiday meals for over 1,010 individuals and families, a 9% increase from the 2024 event.
Students obtained volunteer hours for every donated “Thanksgiving Meal in a Bag,” regardless of their school. Feeding South Florida offered students three volunteer hours for each bag donated, with an opportunity to earn a maximum of 15 hours. Students were encouraged to bring as many bags as they wished and the Service Hours Form from their school for a Feeding South Florida representative to sign.
