Hotel Continental Kicks Off Miami Art Week with Danny O’Connor’s Retro-Inspired Showcase
This Miami Art Week, Hotel Continental invites guests to experience a eccentric fusion of art and nostalgia through a two-day collaboration with artist Danny O’Connor, the creative force behind Danny O Studio. Known for his large-scale, cartoon-inspired canvases that pay homage to the golden era of American leisure. Four of his signature works are currently displayed throughout the hotel.
On Tuesday, December 2, the hotel will host Paws and Palettes, a celebration where creativity goes off-leash. Guests are invited to bring photos of their pets for O’Connor to re-paw-duce as sketches on special Hotel Continental stationery. The free event unfolds across two sessions—10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and 4 to 9 p.m.—on the hotel’s sun-dappled pool deck. Attendees can sip paw-fectly chilled beverages from Divebar’s self-pour cocktail wall and unwind in the vintage-inspired Mixer Lounge, surrounded by the retro glamour that defines Hotel Continental’s Mid Beach aesthetic.
The celebration continues on Wednesday, December 3, from 1 to 5 p.m., with An Afternoon of Art, where O’Connor will bring his midcentury muses to life in a live poolside painting session. Building on his existing piece The Summer of 1948, displayed in the hotel’s lobby, O’Connor will reinterpret its nostalgic vignettes—filled with sun-kissed characters like longboarder “Commander Good Times” and surfer “JoJo Toscano”—onto a larger canvas. Guests are invited to lounge by the pool, enjoy chilled refreshments and watch as Hotel Continental transforms into a living canvas of Miami’s golden age. Portraits created during the event will be available for purchase through Thursday, December 4, making this one of the most engaging experiences of Miami Art Week.
These events are free and open to the public.
