Snow, sleet and ice take over MODS Winter Wonderlab Science Weekends in December on Saturdays, from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m., and on Sundays, from noon – 5 p.m. Experience the weather ingredients that make crazy winter storms. Explore how water changes states from gas to liquid to ice. Find out why the Florida climate is drastically different from many other places around the world. Practice your aim with Science Park “snowball” target shooting, and experience a liquid nitrogen show. Meet the MODS animals that don’t have to hibernate like many others do to survive the cold winter temperatures. Explore careers in technology, environmental science and more! Young explorers (ages 0-6) will observe how snowstorms can appear in a jar, experience misty bubbles, create snowball paintings and winter magic watercolors. Watch an IMAX film on the GIANT Screen: Deep Sky, Arctic: Our Frozen Planet, Dinosaurs of Antarctica, Ireland and more! Included with Museum admission. All films will be presented in 2D. No trailers will be shown before the movie. Audience members are welcome to get up, sing, walk, dance and shout without worrying about complaints. LeMieux has enjoyed a long career in both the private and public sectors. He served as Florida’s 34th United States senator in the 111th Congress. He also served as Florida’s deputy attorney general and as former Governor Charlie Crist’s chief of staff. LeMieux is a practicing attorney and is a chairman on the board of Gunster. He founded the LeMieux Center for Public Policy at Palm Beach Atlantic University. Laura E. Mize is an award-winning book author, an independent journalist, and a former reporter for The Palm Beach Post. Her work has been picked up by the Associated Press, published in newspapers across the country, and aired on National Public Radio. Her first book, Florida Made: The 25 Most Important Figures Who Shaped The State (written with George S. LeMieux), won the 2019 National Indie Excellence Award in the history genre. Mize has written extensively on Florida business, history, food, dining, and agriculture. Some of that work has appeared in The Local Palate, the premier magazine on Southern culinary culture. Tri-Rail’s “Rail Fun Day” presented by Herzog and TransDev will return to the Fort Lauderdale/Hollywood International Airport Station at Dania Beach (500 Gulf Stream Way) on Saturday, February 24, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Attendees of the annual free family fun day will enjoy live entertainment, arts and crafts, interactive games, cookie decorating, photos with Tri-Rail’s mascot Conductor George Green and popular costumed characters, face painting, giveaways, food trucks and the “South Florida’s Kids Got Talent” singing competition. Children and families will enjoy interactive games, arts and crafts with Art and Culture Center/ Hollywood and activities from popular South Florida businesses and organizations, including Flamingo Gardens, Florida Panthers, History Fort Lauderdale, Humane Society of Broward County, Le P’ti Club and the Museum of Discovery and Science. World Famous Los Trompos Experience at Shops at Merrick Park

Shops at Merrick Park, known for its pristine outdoor shopping with lush green spaces and a fine collection of retailers in the heart of Coral Gables, will once again host the world-famous Los Trompos art exhibition created by Mexican designers Héctor Esrawe and Ignacio Cadena. This interactive vibrant outdoor display will make its return to South Florida, captivating audiences from February 13 through March 21 for one month only. “Los Trompos,” which means "spinning tops" in Spanish, is a traveling exhibit that has been displayed in cities around the world, including Mexico City, Paris, and New York. The lively installation will feature eight larger-than-life, three-dimensional colorful spinning tops in a variety of colors and shapes that invite visitors to play and engage with the art. The art draws its inspiration from a toy that has been popular with children around the world since the dawn of time. The colorful surfaces of each top are created, in part, by fabric woven in a traditional Mexican style. The fabric is stretched over the modules to seat several people at once. Functioning as both artwork and a rotating platform, each sculpture acts as a gathering place for relaxation, social interaction and entertainment. This large-scale, artistic installation engages visitors in a way that is both meaningful and playful. By working together to create momentum, visitors can spin the tops on their bases. Los Trompos was first commissioned by High Museum of Arts, Atlanta. Owners of Los Trompos are DTE Energy Beacon Park Foundation and The Downtown Detroit Partnership. The tour producer is Creos.
