Ahoy, adventurers! “Seas” the day and plunge into the mysteries of the ocean as Voyage to the Deep - Underwater Adventures presented by Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital makes a splash at the Museum of Discovery and Science (MODS) from January 26 – May 19, 2024. Discover Jules Verne’s mythical world of 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea by diving into the Cabinet of Curiosities, where you’ll come face-to-face with the most bizarre and awe-inspiring marine specimens imaginable! Then, channel your inner explorer and tinker with the groundbreaking gadgets and gizmos that made Admiral Peary and Matthew Henson Arctic legends during the early 1900s. Explore the lost world of Atlantis and the octopus’s garden, slide down an “escape hatch,” wander through the seaweed maze in the kelp forest and hunt for treasure in the wreck of the Spanish galleon. The exhibition presents fantasy and facts, allowing guests to explore Verne’s imaginary world and the real-life wonders of ocean exploration. Designed to provide a range of interactive experiences, the exhibition includes full-body interactions, mechanical and electro-mechanical exhibits, interactive projections and touchscreens. World Famous Los Trompos Experience at Shops at Merrick Park

Shops at Merrick Park, known for its pristine outdoor shopping with lush green spaces and a fine collection of retailers in the heart of Coral Gables, will once again host the world-famous Los Trompos art exhibition created by Mexican designers Héctor Esrawe and Ignacio Cadena. This interactive vibrant outdoor display will make its return to South Florida, captivating audiences from February 13 through March 21 for one month only. “Los Trompos,” which means "spinning tops" in Spanish, is a traveling exhibit that has been displayed in cities around the world, including Mexico City, Paris, and New York. The lively installation will feature eight larger-than-life, three-dimensional colorful spinning tops in a variety of colors and shapes that invite visitors to play and engage with the art. The art draws its inspiration from a toy that has been popular with children around the world since the dawn of time. The colorful surfaces of each top are created, in part, by fabric woven in a traditional Mexican style. The fabric is stretched over the modules to seat several people at once. Functioning as both artwork and a rotating platform, each sculpture acts as a gathering place for relaxation, social interaction and entertainment. This large-scale, artistic installation engages visitors in a way that is both meaningful and playful. By working together to create momentum, visitors can spin the tops on their bases. Los Trompos was first commissioned by High Museum of Arts, Atlanta. Owners of Los Trompos are DTE Energy Beacon Park Foundation and The Downtown Detroit Partnership. The tour producer is Creos. Blue Whales: Return of the Giants Premieres at the AutoNation® IMAX® 3D Theater at the Museum of Discovery and Science

The AutoNation® IMAX® 3D Theater at the Museum of Discovery and Science (MODS) will premiere Blue Whales: Return of the Giants starting on January 26, 2024. The first giant-screen film on the subject, Blue Whales, was produced by Oceanic Films in collaboration with Howard Hughes Medical Institute (HHMI) Tangled Bank Studios and SK Films and funded by the National Science Foundation (NSF). MODS is one of only a few Florida theaters with screens large enough to display life-sized blue whales. Blue Whales: Return of the Giants introduces audiences to the endangered species, which is not widely understood despite its status as the largest animal to have ever existed. Through two scientific expeditions, the film shows stunning footage of blue whale feeding habits, long-distance communication and mother-calf relationships. One expedition focuses on the search for a missing blue whale population off the coast of the Seychelles Islands in the Indian Ocean while the other expedition joins marine biologist Diane Gendron, also known as the “Blue Whale Whisperer,” in the Gulf of California to observe whale families. Narrated by award-winning actor Andy Serkis, scored by Academy Award-winner Steven Price, and presented in 3D, Blue Whales will immerse audiences in the ocean alongside the massive blue whales and other species such as dolphins, sperm whales, sea lions and orcas. The documentary also features research from local marine biologist Jeremy Kiszka, professor of biology at Florida International University in Miami, Florida. Dr. Kiszka studies the ecology and behavior of cetaceans (whales and dolphins) in tropical marine ecosystems around the globe, particularly in the Caribbean, along the coasts of Florida and in the Indian Ocean. Children ages 5 – 10 can travel “Around the World” December 26 – 29, from 9 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. In this four-day program, campers will learn about the different continents of the world diving into the science of zoology, migration and behavioral patterns, weather models and more. They’ll even engineer a coral nursery that is resilient to weather fluctuations. Children will explore different cultures around the world and create an art piece with diverse cultural influences. American Heritage Schools Announces Nine-Week Summer Programs Including Day Camp and Summer Education, June 10 through August 9, 2024

The prestigious American Heritage Schools, the top-ranked PK3 through 12 college preparatory schools, are pleased to announce that its summer programs, including Day Camp and Summer Education, will be offered in-person or online during Summer 2024. The summer programs will run for nine weeks starting June 10 through August 9, 2024. Summer Camp Programs: American Heritage Schools’ summer camp programs are designed for children ages 3-13. American Heritage Schools provides Day Camp and specialty camps, including Robotics, Art, Science, Musical Theatre, Video Production and Sports camps. Specialty camps vary by campus. Each camper will enjoy age-appropriate activities supervised by American Heritage Schools’ highly qualified staff. Cabins for ages 3-5 are co-ed, while ages 6-13 have separate cabins for boys and girls. All cabins, which are classrooms during the school year, are air conditioned and campers take pride in decorating them to reflect the cabin's theme. To expand the number of recreational activities available to campers ages 8-13, age-appropriate field trips are scheduled. Bus transportation is provided and operated by American Heritage Schools, and all drivers are properly licensed and screened. All field trips are supervised by Off-Campus Directors as well as an appropriate number of counselors. Prior to starting camp, campers will receive a schedule of activities. The summer camps are directed by state-certified teachers and college or high school students who have been carefully screened by American Heritage Schools. Many of the counselors are students or alumni of the school or have been campers or Counselors In Training (CITs) for a number of years. They are well-trained in safety and camp policies.
