Classic Homemade Eggnog (Creamy Holiday Cocktail)
Ingredients
- 4 cups whole milk
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 6 egg yolks
- ¾ cup sugar
- 1 tsp vanilla
- ½ tsp nutmeg
- Optional: ½–1 cup bourbon, rum, or brandy
Instructions
- Whisk egg yolks and sugar until pale and thick.
- Heat milk and cream until warm (don’t boil).
- Slowly whisk warm milk into yolks.
- Return mixture to the pot and heat on low until it slightly thickens.
- Remove from heat; add vanilla and nutmeg.
- Chill completely. Add alcohol before serving, if desired.
- Serve with fresh nutmeg on top.
