NFL Hall of Famer and Miami Dolphins great Dwight Stephenson teamed up with Gunther Automotive Group to host the inaugural Norman Bonchick Memorial Golf Tournament to benefit Broward Children’s Center at The Club at Weston Hills on June 24.
132 golfers played in the tournament for fun or competitively while raising much-needed funds for Broward Children’s Center, a nonprofit organization that has been serving infants, children and young adults with special needs since 1971. The event raised over $70,000 that will support the Center’s crucial programs and medical, developmental and therapeutic services designed to meet the specific needs of infants, children and young adults who are developmentally disabled and medically fragile and their families.
Stephenson along with celebrity friends Lawrence Taylor, OJ McDuffie, Troy Drayton, Akin Ayodele, Mike Pouncey, James McKnight, Kerry Glenn, Ki-Jana Carter, Orlando “El Duque” Hernandez, Pierre Garcon, Travis Daniels and Vernon Carey attended the fundraising event.
Players enjoyed a lavish breakfast provided by Howard’s Market before the scramble-style tournament commenced with a shotgun start. Guests had the opportunity to participate in fun on-course activities and additional fundraising contests at different holes including hole in one, closet to the pin, the longest drive and the straightest drive. Republic National Distributing Company, the official fine wine and spirits sponsor, served complimentary cocktails all day throughout the course and during the luncheon and awards ceremony.
The day concluded with an awards ceremony and a luncheon featuring a silent auction and raffle inside The Club at Weston Hills. Prizes included sports aficionado items, vacation and restaurant packages and more. Each player received a gift pack featuring a golf hat, golf polo shirt, golf towel, plantain chips, a beer-bottle opener, cologne, mini liquor bottles, sunglasses, an umbrella and other swag items.
“We are tremendously humbled by the support from all those who joined us for a fun-filled day on the links,” said David Perez, M.B.A., director of development at Broward Children’s Center. “The inaugural Norman Bonchick Memorial Golf Tournament wouldn’t have been possible without the support of our host Dwight Stephenson, board members, sponsors and donors who are committed to serving infants, children and young adults who are developmentally disabled and medically fragile. The event helped us raise the necessary funds to serve the Centers’ crucial programs and help us provide the continuum of services designed to meet the needs of each child and their families.”
The Norman Bonchick Memorial Golf Tournament thanks its sponsors for their generous support. Sponsors included Gunther Automotive Group, Amazon, Republic National Distributing Company, Miami Dolphins Foundation, Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino, Pioneer Roofing, Florida Blue, Integrated Power Systems (IPS), First Citizens Bank, Coca-Cola, Dixon Golf, Hoffman Chocolates, Howard’s Market, LaCroix, Robins & Morton, Southwest Airlines, Tito’s Vodka, Voli Vodka, Stephen’s Distributing Company and Fogo De Chao.
