We had the opportunity to sit down with Meredith to learn more about her journey, her creative philosophy, and the design insights that continue to shape her work. Here’s what she shared.

ORIGIN & INSPIRATION

Where are you from?
I was originally born in Cape Canaveral, Florida, but grew up in Northern Virginia. My dad was in the Air Force.

Has your background influenced your design approach?
Absolutely. I have a very eclectic personal style, which probably comes from the many places I’ve lived—Virginia, Massachusetts, North Carolina, Tokyo, and South Florida. That exposure allows us to work comfortably with clients from diverse locations and lifestyles.

How did you get started in design?
I was always creative and interested in design as a child. People constantly told me I should be an interior designer—even though I initially pursued publishing. My time living in Tokyo truly ignited my drive to return to school and study interior design professionally. I fell in love with the Japanese aesthetic and felt inspired to expand my knowledge of design in a meaningful way.

If you weren’t an interior designer, what would you be doing instead?
I might still be in publishing, but I believe I would have found my way into business ownership regardless. I’ve always had that entrepreneurial drive.

What accomplishment are you most proud of?
I’m incredibly proud of how I built this business over the last 15 years. I’m also proud of the talented team that works with me and the quality of the work we produce. It’s a wonderful environment—but they make it that way—in what can be a very fast-paced and challenging profession.

SIGNATURE STYLE & PHILOSOPHY

How would you describe your signature style?
Clean-lined, eclectic, and softly modern—though our work is always guided by the specific needs and requests of our clients.

What design rule do you always follow?
Carefully listen to your clients and take them somewhere better than they could have imagined. Oh—and never use viscose in rugs! (Laughs.)

What “rule” do you love to break?
The idea that everything must be perfectly scaled to a room. Introducing one oversized element—like a dramatic light fixture or bold chair—can completely transform a space. Playing with proportion is incredibly important.

How do you make a home both beautiful and livable?
You must consider how the space will actually be used. A single professional has very different needs than a family of four with pets. We study each client’s lifestyle and select materials and finishes accordingly.

What materials or colors are inspiring you right now?
Textural glass, raw plaster and clay finishes, patinaed metals, raw stones, muted sage greens, and natural linens.

What’s your favorite room to transform?
The bedroom. It’s your sanctuary. It sets the tone for your day and is where you retreat from the world.

What’s one lesson you learned from a challenging project?
Choose clients you truly want to collaborate with. Large renovations and custom homes take months—sometimes years. Chemistry and a strong team are everything.

DESIGN ADVICE FOR HOMEOWNERS

What small change delivers the biggest impact?
Be open to your designer’s suggestions—even if they feel outside your comfort zone. That unexpected idea is often what makes a space special.

Where should homeowners splurge—and where can they save?
Splurge on beautiful kitchen slabs and unique hood details.
Save in secondary spaces like closets and laundry rooms.

What timeless element do you always recommend?
At least one truly comfortable place to sit. We sometimes sacrifice comfort for design—but every home needs a place where you can truly relax.

How can you make a small room feel larger?
Control the color envelope—avoid high contrast with trim and doors. Float furniture when possible, use mirrors strategically, and pay attention to scale. Small patterns and undersized furniture often make a room feel busier and smaller.

What should homeowners do before starting a renovation?
Assemble your full professional team from the start. Don’t delay bringing everyone to the table early.

What’s the biggest DIY mistake homeowners make?
Underestimating the time, work, and costs involved. Projects take longer than expected, and frustration often follows.

What upgrade adds beauty and functionality?
Layered lighting—general, task, and decorative. Lighting transforms everything.

How can homeowners elevate a space without renovating?
Replace builder-grade lighting with pieces that reflect your personality. Update a backsplash. And never underestimate the power of paint.

What advice do you wish more homeowners would take?
Hire a professional if you can. It will save you time, money, and stress in the long run.

FUN FACTS

Favorite destination for design inspiration?
Asia—Japan, Myanmar, Thailand, Vietnam.

One design mistake homeowners make repeatedly?
Hanging artwork too high.

One instant upgrade?
Paint. It’s the quickest and most budget-friendly transformation.

A trend you see coming?
More personalized spaces with handcrafted pieces and family heirlooms. There’s too much fast furniture today. Quality antiques can always be refreshed and reimagined.

Luxury is…
Having the assistance you need, exactly when you need it.

One piece in your home that makes you happiest?
A ceramic piece I recently purchased from my old high school sculpture teacher.

Minimalist or maximalist?
Somewhere in the middle.

Creative peak time?
Still a night owl.

Office playlist vibe?
Whatever the team chooses—often Latin classics or hits. Sometimes soothing sounds with subliminals.

Favorite way to celebrate finishing a big project?
Professional photos—and cocktails, of course.

Design-mode drink of choice?
Water. I need a clear head.
