Water safety and drowning prevention take center stage during the YMCA of South Florida’s annual Beach Ball, presented by Nicklaus Children's Hospital, on Saturday, October 14, beginning at 6:30 p.m. at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino, 1 Seminole Way in Hollywood. Themed “Rock with Us!,” the Beach Ball benefits the Y’s Aquatic Financial Assistance program, which provides free lessons and water safety instruction for at-risk children, teens, families and caregivers in Broward, Miami-Dade and Monroe counties. Since 2016, funds raised have made it possible to provide swim lessons and water safety education to over 150,000 children in local communities. The Beach Ball is the YMCA of South Florida’s signature fundraiser and one of the hottest social events of the season in South Florida. Guests will enjoy a cocktail reception, three-course dinner, live musical entertainment, dancing and a live auction. In addition, a silent auction, which will include a wide array of high-quality items, will be available starting 10 days prior to Beach Ball 2023 and will run through the event. A limited number of sponsorships for Beach Ball 2023 are still available. This includes a Platinum Sponsorship for $10,000, which consists of event seating for 10 guests at the general reception, program book ad, and acknowledgement on event media and materials. Ruby, Gold and Silver sponsorship options are also available for $7,500, $5,000 and $2,000, respectively. Ann Storck Center to Host Deck The Volleyballs Tournament on Dec. 9

Jingle all the way to the beach! Ann Storck Center – a Fort Lauderdale-based private nonprofit organization dedicated to enriching lives of children and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities – is excited to host its Deck The Volleyballs tournament on Saturday, Dec. 9 on Pompano Beach. All proceeds will go towards purchasing holiday gifts for the children and residents of Ann Storck Center. Participants may also bring a new, unwrapped toy to donate. The community event will feature a fun-filled day of volleyball, a raffle, prizes, lunch and more for a good cause. Co-ed 4’s volleyball teams are invited to participate in the beach volleyball tournament in competitive or recreational divisions. Teams must consist of a minimum of four players and can be a maximum of five players. Players under 18 years old must sign a waiver. Sponsorship opportunities are available and range from $100-$5,000. Individual tournament entry is a gift, a gift card or $50 entry fee per person. Registration includes lunch. Proceeds benefit Ann Storck Center, which accommodates 96 residents and serves more than 300 individuals daily through an array of critical care, learning and ability focused programs.

Skate for a Cause to Benefit MADD Southeast Florida

Supporters can also make any Tuesday a Giving Tuesday by adding a donation or keepsake ornament to any skate session purchase. Founded by a mother whose daughter was killed by a drunk driver, Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) is the nation’s largest nonprofit working to protect families from drunk driving and underage drinking.MADD also supports drunk and drugged driving victims and survivors at no charge, serving one person every nine minutes through local MADD victim advocates and at 1-877-MADD-HELP. In Southeast Florida, the organization’s annual Walk Like MADD & MADD Dash Fort Lauderdale 5K, taking place in Downtown Fort Lauderdale on April 28, 2024, has raised more than $3.7 million since 2011. Under MADD Southeast Florida, hundreds of free events take place each year to educate youth and parents on the dangers and consequences of impaired driving in Broward, Palm Beach, and St. Lucie Counties.

Feeding South Florida to Host Annual Outrun Hunger 5K in Miami on Feb. 24

On Saturday, Feb. 24, 2024, Feeding South Florida®, the leading hunger-relief organization in South Florida, will host its Annual Outrun Hunger 5K. Runners, walkers, families and community leaders of all ages will come together to take steps to raise funds and awareness to end hunger in South Florida at Tropical Park in Miami. Currently in South Florida, there are over 1.2 million food insecure individuals, and 1 in 9 individuals in South Florida remain uncertain about where they will get their next meal. Registration is currently open to all four counties that Feeding South Florida serves including Palm Beach, Broward, Miami-Dade and Monroe at: https://feedingsouthflorida.org/events/ Participants can join the event as an individual or a team.
