In honor of PRIDE Month, History Fort Lauderdale and Galleria Fort Lauderdale will present “Take PRIDE! A 100-Year Retrospective of LGBTQ+ Milestones” throughout the month of June. This enlightening exhibit at Galleria Fort Lauderdale will highlight major moments in LGBTQ+ history that have impacted South Florida’s arts, culture, business, media, and political landscapes. A ticketed preview reception, serving as the official kickoff to Stonewall PRIDE, will take place on Thursday, May 30, at 6 p.m. Hosted by FayWhat?! of The FayWhat?! Show on the Happening Out Television Network, the reception will honor 10 impactful LGBTQ community leaders and will include special performances by Velvet Lenore and Vauz Allen along with music by DJ Jay McCracken of Spiked Entertainment.
The 2024 “Take PRIDE!” honorees who have made significant contributions to the South Florida community are: Andy Rogow, artistic director of Island City Stage; David Jobin, president/CEO of The Our Fund Foundation; Erika Norell, renowned entertainer; Jacqueline Lorber, president/CEO of South Florida Symphony Orchestra; Josie Smith Malave, former “Top Chef” contestant and owner of Bubbles and Pearls; Mark Gilbert, board chair of OUTshine LGBTQ+ Film Festival; Misty Eyez, transgender advocate and director at SunServe; Robert Boo, CEO of The Pride Center at Equality Park; Shawn Palacious (Kitty Meow), celebrity host and Steven Evans, Ph.D., owner and publisher of OutClique magazine.
This historic exhibit will highlight major moments in national, state and local history such as Executive Order 10450 which banned homosexuals from working for the federal government in 1953, the Stonewall riots in 1969, Harvey Milk elected to office as the first openly gay man in 1978 and same sex marriage legalized in the United States in 2015. In addition, it will also include the Miss Florida F.I. Pageant Wall of Fame which celebrates 53 years of the art of female impersonation. Pageant title holders from 1972 to present will be displayed.
Additional contributions to the exhibit are courtesy of Stonewall National Museum, Archives & Library, History Miami, Wilton Manors Historical Society, GLBT Historical Society, and New York Public Library, National Archives.
The exhibition, located near Swarovski, between Macy’s and Dillard’s, will be free and open to the public during mall hours from June 1 - 30.

Beauty isn’t everything. Why is it the only thing? Delve into the neurotic New York family dynamic of Island City Stage’s newest comedy, Skintight by Joshua Harmon, running May 30 through June 23.
Initially premiering Off-Broadway in 2018 at the Roundabout Theater in New York City, Skintight examines the nature of love, the power of attraction, and the ways in which a superficial culture persists in teaching its children that all that matters is what’s on the inside.
“I love this play because it isn't afraid to explode the cliche that what's on the inside of a person is more important that what's on the outside. Maybe, we CAN love someone for their beauty or their money,” said Andy Rogow, artistic director of Island City Stage. “It's also an engrossing story about how parents and children navigate their relationship when previous generations haven't taught them how to love unconditionally. The neediness of all the characters in this play create fireworks that are both outrageously funny and searingly caustic.”
Reeling from her ex-husband’s engagement to a much younger woman, Jodi Isaac turns to her famous fashion-designer dad for support. Instead, she finds him wrapped-up in his West Village townhouse with Trey. Who’s 20. And not necessarily gay. But probably an adult film star. At least, according to Jodi’s son. Who’s also 20. And definitely gay.
Playwright Joshua Harmon brings neurotic family drama and comedy to the forefront as father and daughter contend with the age-old questions of how to age gracefully in a world obsessed with youth and where love fits into it all.
Harmon's other plays include Bad Jews, Significant Other, Admissions, and Prayer for the French Republic. He and Sarah Silverman co-wrote the libretto for The Bedwetter based on her memoir. His plays have been produced on Broadway and the West End; off-Broadway at Roundabout Theatre Company, Lincoln Center Theater, Manhattan Theater Club and Atlantic Theater Company; across the country at Geffen Playhouse, Speakeasy, Studio Theatre, Theater Wit, About Face, Actor's Express, and The Magic, among others; and internationally in a dozen countries. He is a two-time MacDowell fellow and an associate artist at Roundabout. He is a Juilliard graduate.
Skintight is directed by Rogow and stars Suzanne Ankrum, Laura Argo, Jeff Brackett, Daniel Barrett, Louis Pedraza and Steve Schroko.

Frascione Gallery, founded in 1893 in Italy, presents its inaugural Palm Beach gallery exhibition featuring Old Masters, Contemporary, and Modern paintings and sculptures. Curated by Massimo Pulini in partnership with Aria Art Gallery (Florence), “Timelessness” explores how art transcends time and place. Art never ceases to tell different stories to everyone and this narrative is tied to a remote time and distant geography. The exhibition aims to serve as a laboratory for researching these connections, giving rise to dialectical forms between the past and present, near and remote. Use LEGO® Bricks to design Build a Better Bus Stop that is socially equitable and environmentally-friendly or craft an Eco house using LEGO® Spike kits.
• Animal Encounters: Meet our resident native animals and learn how we can help improve their lives as fellow inhabitants of native Florida ecosystems.
• Watch an IMAX on the GIANT Screen: Secrets of the Seas, Flight of the Butterflies, Legend of the Enchanted Reef, Arctic: Our Frozen Planet and more!
• Career Connections: Learn about careers in engineering and architecture.
Just for early learners (ages 0-6): Use LEGO® Bricks to create habitats and learn how ecosystems around Florida are similar and different. Discover how habitats protect animals and how they are similar to our own home.
Children can also visit and investigate ocean marvels in MODS’ latest traveling exhibit, Voyage to the Deep – Underwater Adventures, running through May 19. “Seas” the day and embark on the legendary Nautilus submarine with Captain Nemo for an interactive journey of underwater exploration! The exhibition was created and developed by the Australian National Maritime Museum, an Australian Government entity. Flying Fish manages the exhibit tour. It is locally sponsored by Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital.
