Psychedelic Series Presents “Real Estate for Psychedelics – the Healing REIT”

Nucleus, a venture studio for psychedelics wholly owned by Iter Investments, will present its monthly Psychedelic Series at Soho Beach House Miami on Thursday, February 9 at 7 p.m. Moderated by psychedelics expert Dustin Robinson, Esq. CPA, panelists include Stanley Cup champion and Wesana CEO Daniel Carcillo and Managing Partner at Ambria Capital and Phyto Partners Cody Shandraw. The topic of the panel is, “Real Estate for Psychedelics – the Healing REIT.” Carcillo and Shandraw are founders of Healing REIT, alongside CEO Ty Zakovich. Healing REIT invests in real estate designed for innovative medicine. The current healthcare infrastructure does not support the already, and soon-to-be approved, FDA-novel therapies like ketamine, MDMA and psilocybin-assisted therapy. As a real estate investment trust that connects investors to clinics looking to adopt psychedelic therapies and other novel treatment options, Healing REIT is creating a win-win situation for those looking to invest in this budding industry and clinicians looking to provide the best treatment possible to their patients. Launched in June 2021 by Robinson and visionary leader Sam Baum, the Psychedelic Series has seen great success, hosting over 25 panels with over 75 notable speakers and over 1,500 people in attendance. The Psychedelic Series features experts in the psychedelics space including CEOs, doctors, lawyers and celebrities. The panel started at Soho Beach House Miami and expanded to locations throughout the country including New York, Chicago and California, as well as internationally in London and Amsterdam. Past panelists include MAPS Founder Rick Doblin, NBA champion Lamar Odom, Psilera Bioscience CEO Chris Witowski, PhD, Silo Wellness CEO Douglas K. Gordon, and others. Robinson is Founding Partner of Mr. Cannabis Law – a full service law firm focused on the cannabis and psychedelic industries; Co-Founder of Mr. Psychedelic Law – a non-profit focused on psychedelic legal reform; Managing Principal of Iter Investments – a venture capital firm deploying capital across the psychedelic ecosystem; and Co-Founder of Nucleus – a platform with various tools to help guide individuals on their mental health journey. Carcillo founded Wesana Health after his own personal experience with psychedelics in healing brain injuries he obtained as a hockey player. He’s a two-time Stanley Cup winner with the Chicago Blackhawks, however Carcillo was forced into early retirement when he was just 30 after suffering from post-concussion syndrome. His recovery, due in large part to psychedelics, led him to found Wesana Health. Wesana Health is an emerging life sciences company championing the development and delivery of therapies, including psychedelics, to treat traumatic brain injury (TBI) and related conditions. Through extensive clinical research and academic partnerships, the company is developing evidence-based formulations and protocols that empower patients to overcome neurological, psychological and mental health ailments caused by trauma. Shandraw has been a serial entrepreneur from an early age, striving to be a proven producer of profit in all of his ventures. Shandraw serves as a Managing Partner at Ambria Capital and Phyto Partners. He manages market assessment projects and due diligence, as well as client relationships. He oversees one of the most active due diligence programs in the psychedelics industry, focused on early-stage companies and non-traditional venture opportunities. Shandraw is passionate about advocating for psychedelic-assisted therapies and advancing their place in the mental healthcare landscape. To date, he and his team have backed more than 50 companies and supported many in growth to scale. He was recently recognized and honored as the 2021 Investor of the Year at the first annual Microdose Awards.

Seeing with New Eyes: Contemporary Art from Latin America features a selection of works by 12 emerging and mid-career artists from Latin America. Encompassing a variety of media including painting, embroidery, paper cutting, collage, and sculpture, the exhibition highlights contemporary artists who draw from reality to create mystical and deconstructed landscapes. Among the artists represented are Vicente Grondona and Miguel D’Arienzo, whose narrative paintings reflect our relationship with nature, while integrating magical realism and mythological elements into scenes from daily life. Whereas their works evoke narrative, Andres Paredes and Lucia Spotorno present elaborate landscapes and nature-based silhouettes. Mirroring one another, Parades’ delicate papercut works and Spotorno’s layered scenic paintings draw viewers in with their playful shadows and convincing depth. Lucas Pertile and Lia Porto’s mixed media and embroidery works push these elements even further through their complex, sensory, and ornamental pieces–detailed landscapes and patterns one can easily get lost in.

Unlike their counterparts, Chiara Baccanelli, Lucila Fiorenza, Maria Santi, Ana Clara Soler, and Roberto Vivo abstract and deconstruct elements in their practice. Reducing objects to their essence, Fiorenza, Santi, and Soler stitch together compositions creating new narratives and relationships among items ranging from plants, fruits, and vases to organic forms. Together, the exhibited works reflect a new way of seeing–one which departs from stark realism and incorporates a vibrant, playful, questioning of forms and traditional practices to create an encounter with the imaginary.

“A Night of Stars,” a fundraiser for the 20th anniversary annual SMART Ride (Southern Most AIDS/HIV Ride 2023) presented by CAN Community Health, returns to Lips, the ultimate in-drag dining, on Thursday, February 9, at 7 p.m.! History Fort Lauderdale, proud steward of our community’s past by making our heritage accessible and engaging to residents and visitors, will present a free book signing and meet & greet with Mike McGinness and Jeff Davies, authors of “Florida: A History in Pictures” (MacIntyre Purcell Publishing Inc.), on Saturday, February 11, from 1 p.m. – 3 p.m. Their appearance is part of History Fort Lauderdale’s “Florida Scribes & Stories,” a meet the author monthly series that offers literary and history enthusiasts a chance to speak with local authors, purchase their latest releases and have them signed. Mike McGinness and Jeff Davies have put together the definitive photographic account of the Sunshine State. With more than 130 photographs ― many of them seen for the first time ― “Florida: A History in Pictures” offers a stunning portrait of this one-of-a-kind state. From the stone forts at St. Augustine, the oldest continuously inhabited city in the United States, to the Everglades (or “The Big Swamp” as it was called at the beginning of the 20th century) to Bok Tower Gardens in Lake Wales, the Fort Myers Beach arches and Jupiter Inlet Lighthouse, it is all here. Mike McGinness is a native of Florida, born in Orlando and raised in Altamonte Springs and Tampa. He has lived in Florida for more than 50 years. He has a passion for studying history, the great outdoors, bass fishing, music, and rooting for his favorite sports teams. He works in Data Center Operations for AdventHealth in Altamonte Springs and has been with the same company for 38 years. Boca Raton resident Jeff Davies’ passion for history has spanned many decades. His family relocated to North Bay Village from Brooklyn when Jeff was just five years old. Davies was always interested in the history behind old pictures and became known as the family historian.
