History Fort Lauderdale’s third floor resident artists’ collective will present its annual show entitled “Six Perspectives” from May 4 – June 22. The six artists exhibiting are Constance Ivana, Stephanie McMillan, Rucci, Florencia Clement de Grandprey, Jenna Ross and Agneta Anderson. A meet and greet with the artists will take place on Friday, May 10, from 5 – 8 p.m., at the New River Inn Museum of History building on History Fort Lauderdale’s campus. Complimentary light bites and beverages will be provided. History Fort Lauderdale, proud steward of our community’s past by making our heritage accessible and engaging to residents and visitors, hosts a variety of engaging multicultural experiences, year-round. Heroes: A Benefit Concert for the Blind and Visually Impaired

American Heritage Schools, in partnership with Lighthouse of Broward, presents its fourth annual Heroes event, a fundraising concert and auction to benefit the blind and visually impaired in Broward County, at American Heritage Schools’ Center for the Arts auditorium, on Saturday, May 4 from 5-8 p.m. The event will be a speakeasy-themed soirée featuring singer Mitch Franco. The Lighthouse of Broward is the only private, non-profit organization in Broward County that provides comprehensive educational, rehabilitation, and counseling services to blind and visually impaired children and adults. Through their work, the Lighthouse of Broward enhances the lives of people who are blind and visually impaired in Broward County and empowers them to live independent, healthy, employed, and fulfilling lives. All of the funds from the benefit concert and auction will ensure that the Lighthouse of Broward can continue to provide vital services to over 2,590 people throughout Broward County each year. Attendees can enjoy cocktails and hors d’oeuvres throughout the evening and participate in a live and silent auction benefiting the Lighthouse of Broward. Wood, CFO, FIFireE, and retired Chief of the Boca Raton Fire Department, has spent years researching the Boca Raton Army Air Field and its Fire Department. Wood will share information about the many incidents the BRAAF Fire Department handled including the crash of a B34 Lexington bomber on May 12, 1944—eighty years ago. Nine soldiers lost their lives in the crash. Through Wood’s efforts, a state historical marker commemorating the tragedy was unveiled on FAU’s campus in 2021. 6p Refreshments. 6:30 Speaker starts. The emergence of the Black Lives Matter movement pushed her art in the direction of social awareness and change. Chire has dedicated both her artistic practice and her life to community advocacy and activism. Her work responds to urgent societal concerns and functions as a critical platform to amplify the voices of community members who are often silenced. Over the past decade, Chire has focused primarily on community advocacy and depicting social narratives without distortion in various mediums. In South Florida, Chire continues to merge her artistic practice with community-led activism, emphasizing the art of storytelling as a means of engaging with communities with radical empathy and transparency.
