Ahoy, adventurers! “Seas” the day and plunge into the mysteries of the ocean as Voyage to the Deep - Underwater Adventures presented by Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital makes a splash at the Museum of Discovery and Science (MODS) from January 26 – May 19, 2024. Discover Jules Verne’s mythical world of 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea by diving into the Cabinet of Curiosities, where you’ll come face-to-face with the most bizarre and awe-inspiring marine specimens imaginable! Then, channel your inner explorer and tinker with the groundbreaking gadgets and gizmos that made Admiral Peary and Matthew Henson Arctic legends during the early 1900s. Explore the lost world of Atlantis and the octopus’s garden, slide down an “escape hatch,” wander through the seaweed maze in the kelp forest and hunt for treasure in the wreck of the Spanish galleon. The exhibition presents fantasy and facts, allowing guests to explore Verne’s imaginary world and the real-life wonders of ocean exploration. Designed to provide a range of interactive experiences, the exhibition includes full-body interactions, mechanical and electro-mechanical exhibits, interactive projections and touchscreens. Assemble your crew, gather your sea legs and join us for a once-in-a- lifetime oceanic odyssey that’ll make your wildest nautical dreams come true! The Voyage to the Deep exhibition was created and developed by the Australian National Maritime Museum, an Australian Government entity. Flying Fish manages the exhibit tour. Experience South Florida’s award-winning attraction featuring 150,000 square feet of dynamic science exhibits, an outdoor science park, a live animal collection, a rotating schedule of science shows, learning labs, café, store, and a grand atrium featuring the Great Gravity Clock, a 52-foot-tall kinetic energy sculpture; the largest clock in Florida. Blue Whales: Return of the Giants Premieres at the AutoNation® IMAX® 3D Theater at the Museum of Discovery and Science

The AutoNation® IMAX® 3D Theater at the Museum of Discovery and Science (MODS) will premiere Blue Whales: Return of the Giants starting on January 26, 2024. The first giant-screen film on the subject, Blue Whales, was produced by Oceanic Films in collaboration with Howard Hughes Medical Institute (HHMI) Tangled Bank Studios and SK Films and funded by the National Science Foundation (NSF). MODS is one of only a few Florida theaters with screens large enough to display life-sized blue whales. Blue Whales: Return of the Giants introduces audiences to the endangered species, which is not widely understood despite its status as the largest animal to have ever existed. Through two scientific expeditions, the film shows stunning footage of blue whale feeding habits, long-distance communication and mother-calf relationships. One expedition focuses on the search for a missing blue whale population off the coast of the Seychelles Islands in the Indian Ocean while the other expedition joins marine biologist Diane Gendron, also known as the “Blue Whale Whisperer,” in the Gulf of California to observe whale families. Narrated by award-winning actor Andy Serkis, scored by Academy Award-winner Steven Price, and presented in 3D, Blue Whales will immerse audiences in the ocean alongside the massive blue whales and other species such as dolphins, sperm whales, sea lions and orcas. The documentary also features research from local marine biologist Jeremy Kiszka, professor of biology at Florida International University in Miami, Florida. Dr. Kiszka studies the ecology and behavior of cetaceans (whales and dolphins) in tropical marine ecosystems around the globe, particularly in the Caribbean, along the coasts of Florida and in the Indian Ocean. The Da Vinci Machines & Robotics Exhibit Opens February 2nd, 2024 in Downtown Miami

For the First Time in South Florida, The Da Vinci Machines and Robotics Exhibition, curated by the Artisans of Florence and the Niccolai Group. The hands-on interactive exhibition features over sixty displays, including da Vinci's Robot, dragonfly drone, bicycle, scuba suit, spring-powered car, Aerial Screw (precursor of the helicopter), hang glider, and the world's first military tank. This exhibit offers locals and visitors alike a chance to explore the mind of the greatest genius of all time through a hands-on interactive experience designed for all ages. On loan from the Museum of Leonardo da Vinci in Florence, Italy, the exhibit connects the past and the future with over sixty displays, including robots, war machines, flying contraptions, and civil and hydraulic inventions, alongside an extensive art gallery of reproduced masterpieces revealing da Vinci’s hand-drawn notes and designs. “Six Perspectives” Residents’ Collective Art Exhibit at History Fort Lauderdale

History Fort Lauderdale’s third floor resident artists’ collective will present its annual show entitled “Six Perspectives” from May 4 – June 22. The six artists exhibiting are Constance Ivana, Stephanie McMillan, Rucci, Florencia Clement de Grandprey, Jenna Ross and Agneta Anderson. A meet and greet with the artists will take place on Friday, May 10, from 5 – 8 p.m., at the New River Inn Museum of History building on History Fort Lauderdale’s campus. Complimentary light bites and beverages will be provided. History Fort Lauderdale, proud steward of our community’s past by making our heritage accessible and engaging to residents and visitors, hosts a variety of engaging multicultural experiences, year-round.
