This speculative biopic about Swedish UN Secretary-General Dag Hammarskjöld, the anti-colonialist, allegedly queer diplomat who died under mysterious circumstances during the Cold War while trying to bring peace to the Congo, will screen on Thursday, October 24, at 7:30 p.m., at Savor Cinema (503 SE 6th Street). An afterparty will follow the screening. In New York City, 1961, amid the Cold War, Dag Hammarskjöld, the charismatic UN Secretary-General, is at the height of his influence. Committed to post- colonial peace in Africa, he opposes those exploiting the continent’s resources. His world shifts when an old friend, Peter, arrives, causing Dag to question his intense dedication to his role. Following the death of UN peacekeepers in the Congo, Dag decides to lead the UN troops on their first combat mission to enforce peace. Aware of potential threats against him, he boards a plane for a final attempt at negotiating a cease-fire. The film is directed by Per Fly. In Swedish and English with English subtitles.
