From electric flying cars and aerial highways to smart buildings, greener infrastructure and solar power beamed from space, Cities of the Future offers an inspiring vision of how we will live 50 years from now, combining state-of-the-art CGI with live-action cinematography. The film also looks at modern urban landscapes in the midst of transformation, revealing profound changes already happening in some of the world’s greatest cities, from Los Angeles to Amsterdam to Singapore. Cities of the Future also introduces viewers to a team of middle school students participating in the Future City Competition, an annual contest where 60,000 middle school students from the U.S. and around the world compete to create a model future city. OUTshine LGBTQ+ Film Festival, internationally acclaimed as one of the largest LGBTQ+ cultural festivals in the world, is pleased to present the East Coast premiere of the historical narrative “Hammarskjöld - Fight for Peace” (Sweden, 2024), its Centerpiece Film. This speculative biopic about Swedish UN Secretary-General Dag Hammarskjöld, the anti-colonialist, allegedly queer diplomat who died under mysterious circumstances during the Cold War while trying to bring peace to the Congo, will screen on Thursday, October 24, at 7:30 p.m., at Savor Cinema (503 SE 6th Street). An afterparty will follow the screening. In New York City, 1961, amid the Cold War, Dag Hammarskjöld, the charismatic UN Secretary-General, is at the height of his influence. Committed to post- colonial peace in Africa, he opposes those exploiting the continent’s resources. His world shifts when an old friend, Peter, arrives, causing Dag to question his intense dedication to his role. Following the death of UN peacekeepers in the Congo, Dag decides to lead the UN troops on their first combat mission to enforce peace. Aware of potential threats against him, he boards a plane for a final attempt at negotiating a cease-fire. The film is directed by Per Fly. In Swedish and English with English subtitles.
