CITY Furniture Hosts 3rd Annual Green CITY Summit on Sustainability and Resilience

On Wednesday, July 10, CITY Furniture, a South-Florida-based, family-owned American furniture and mattress retailer and fine upholstery manufacturer, and one of America’s Top 100 furniture retailers, hosted the 3rd Annual Green CITY Summit at its Headquarters in Tamarac, FL. The annual Summit brought together industry leaders, sustainability experts, and innovators for engaging discussions on pressing topics related to global warming and business impacts, implementing a corporate sustainability strategy, building green facilities and much more.

Distinguished attendees included Keith Koenig, Chairman of CITY Furniture; Andrew Koenig, CEO of CITY Furniture; Jason Lee, CEO of HeatGuardian & SmartCone Technologies; Dr. Colin Polsky, Associate Vice President, Broward Campuses, and Professor of Geosciences at FAU; Jason Grant, Manager at World Wildlife Fund; Jameson Dion, Vice President of Global Sourcing at CITYFurniture; Cynthia Miller, Director of Health, Safety & Environment at the Miami Dolphins; Michael Prairie, Director of Sustainability & Business Operations at the Florida Panthers; Zach Ruiz, Sustainability Manager at the Miami HEAT; and Jaap Donath, Assistant Executive Director of Programs at the Alan B. Levan | NSU Broward Center of Innovation.

During the event, CITY Furniture shared its ambitious ‘2040 Green Promise’ to become carbon neutral and achieve zero waste to landfill by 2040. This reflects the company’s dedication to a lasting positive impact on the environment and a more sustainable future.

“We created the Green CITY Summit to bring together the best local leaders, companies, and innovators to share knowledge and inspire others to drive sustainability,” said Andrew Koenig, CEO of CITY Furniture. “Our 2040 Green Promise is to achieve carbon neutrality by 2040. Through our green fleets, energy-efficient buildings, and recycling efforts, we aim to minimize our environmental impact. This Summit is about connecting, learning, and sharing our journey towards these goals.”

Attendees also had an opportunity to see CITY Furniture’s state-of-the-art facilities, green fleet, and energy efficient showroom firsthand, experiencing the company’s commitment to sustainable practices and environmental stewardship.  The day’s events ended with a vendor showcase, cocktail, and awards reception for all attendees.

The 2024 Awards recipients were:

  • Sustainable Vendor of the Year: SOCOTEC
  • Sustainable Civic Leader of the Year: Michael Ryan, Mayor, City of Sunrise
  • Sustainable Excellence Award for Community Leadership: Cynthia Miller, Director, Health & Safety & Environment, Miami Dolphins, Michael Prairie, Director, Sustainability & Business Operations, Florida Panthers, and Zach Ruiz, Sustainability Manager, Miami HEAT.
  • CITY Green Leader of the Year: Rhonda Socol, Senior Manager, Supply Chain, CITYFurniture
  • Outstanding Sustainable Sourcing Support: Kimberly Husar, Regulatory Compliance Coordinator, CITY Furniture

The Vendor Showcase featured organizations such as the Museum of Discovery & Science, CityElectric Supply, Choice Waste, Filthy Organics, FPL, FAU, Habitat for Humanity of Broward, Southeast Florida Clean Cities Coalition, and Ascendance Sustainable Events.
