The 3rd Annual Brunch on Purpose Luncheon, held at the Charles F. Dodge City Center in Pembroke Pines, brought together over 500 purpose-driven individuals on Saturday, October 5th for a memorable day of empowerment, inspiration, and community engagement. Themed “You’re The One,” this year’s event focused on overcoming challenges, embracing opportunities, and leaving lasting legacies.
The event opened with welcoming remarks from past honoree Nicole Dabrowski and a prayer led by Cal Baker. Dignitaries in attendance included West Park Mayor Felecia Brunson; Fort Lauderdale Commissioner Pamela Beasley Pittman; Broward Sheriff Dr. Gregory Tony; and radio personalities from Hot 105 and 103.5 The Beat.
Sheriff Dr. Gregory Tony took to the stage to share a few words of encouragement. “Events like this remind us of the power of community and purpose,” said Sheriff Tony. “As public servants, we have the honor to lead, but it’s through partnerships with organizations like the Born onPurpose Project that we can truly uplift and inspire future generations. Today is about purpose and making a lasting difference in the lives of those we serve.”
In addition to recognizing the event’s sponsors and vendors, including premier sponsor Enterate Marivi & Sara, the brunch featured exciting giveaways, auctions, and an exclusive fashion show by the No Limits Foundation, highlighting designs from Cuffed Designs, crafted by students of South Florida Fashion Academy under Principal Taj McGil and Fashion Director Mr. Price.
A highlight of the event was the moving purpose testimonies, led by Dawn Watts, who shared inspiring stories about overcoming adversity and living with intention. She emphasized the power of purpose, sharing examples of purpose-driven lives, including retired BSO Deputy Parks, Dr. Hutchison, and representatives from EMA. Their stories resonated with the audience, inspiring attendees to reflect on their own journeys and how they can make a lasting impact. Following Dawn Watts, Josefa Benjamin, founder of the Born on Purpose Project, delivered her own powerful testimony, expressing the mission of the organization and encouraging attendees to step into their purpose with confidence, faith, and determination.
“At Born on Purpose, we believe everyone has a unique calling,” said Josefa Benjamin, founder of the Born on Purpose Project. “This event is not just about celebrating the journey but also about encouraging each person to step into their purpose with confidence, faith, and determination. We are here to support that growth and to remind each one of you: You’re the One!”
Attendees were encouraged to reflect on their purpose while exploring the theme of “Purpose in Your City,” with Mayor Brunson and Commissioner Beasley Pittman sharing their personal journeys of being born and raised in their cities and now serving as public officials.
Dr. LaTasha “Tasha” Russell led an interactive session, “Drive By Therapy,” which asked participants to consider the emotional and physical baggage they carry and encouraged them to let go of unnecessary burdens. As a symbolic gesture, attendees were invited to take out the mock credit card from their swag bags and pledge, “I’m the One,” holding their cards high in the air as a declaration of self-empowerment.
The event featured a fashion show presented by No Limits Foundation, showcasing the versatility of Born on Purpose apparel, including Born on Purpose and Unstoppable tees, hoodies, and sweatshirts. Attendees had the opportunity to bid on auction baskets curated with unique items to support the Born on Purpose Project’s mission.
Pastor Tekoa Pouerie, Vice President at Pace Center for Girls Headquarters, delivered an inspiring keynote address, urging attendees to live purposefully and embrace their unique calling. Her powerful words resonated with the audience, bringing the theme “You’re the One” theme to life.
The event concluded with a final reflection from the Brunch on Purpose team, highlighting the impact of the day and thanking all the remarkable speakers for their testimonies. Attendees joined in a heartfelt closing prayer led by Pastor Tekoa Pouerie, bringing the event to a meaningful close.
