Blue Whales: Return of the Giants Premieres at the AutoNation® IMAX® 3D Theater at the Museum of Discovery and Science

AutoNation® IMAX® 3D Theater Museum of Discovery and Science 401 SW 2nd St., Fort Lauderdale,, FL, United States
The AutoNation® IMAX® 3D Theater at the Museum of Discovery and Science (MODS) will premiere Blue Whales: Return of the Giants starting on January 26, 2024. The first giant-screen film on the subject, Blue Whales, was produced by Oceanic Films in collaboration with Howard Hughes Medical Institute (HHMI) Tangled Bank Studios and SK Films and funded by the National Science Foundation (NSF). MODS is one of only a few Florida theaters with screens large enough to display life-sized blue whales. Blue Whales: Return of the Giants introduces audiences to the endangered species, which is not widely understood despite its status as the largest animal to have ever existed. Through two scientific expeditions, the film shows stunning footage of blue whale feeding habits, long-distance communication and mother-calf relationships. One expedition focuses on the search for a missing blue whale population off the coast of the Seychelles Islands in the Indian Ocean while the other expedition joins marine biologist Diane Gendron, also known as the “Blue Whale Whisperer,” in the Gulf of California to observe whale families. Narrated by award-winning actor Andy Serkis, scored by Academy Award-winner Steven Price, and presented in 3D, Blue Whales will immerse audiences in the ocean alongside the massive blue whales and other species such as dolphins, sperm whales, sea lions and orcas. The documentary also features research from local marine biologist Jeremy Kiszka, professor of biology at Florida International University in Miami, Florida. Dr. Kiszka studies the ecology and behavior of cetaceans (whales and dolphins) in tropical marine ecosystems around the globe, particularly in the Caribbean, along the coasts of Florida and in the Indian Ocean. To view the trailer, please visit BlueWhalesfilm.com. The AutoNation® IMAX® Theater at the Museum of Discovery and Science is located at 401 SW 2nd Street in Fort Lauderdale. “Yakne Seminoli” Seminole Fine Art Exhibit at History Fort Lauderdale

History Fort Lauderdale 231 SW Second Avenue, Fort Lauderdale, FL, United States
“Yakne Seminoli,” New Works by Seminole Artists Erica Deitz and Brian Zepeda, celebrates Native American History Month (November) and beyond at History Fort Lauderdale. This collaboration with the Seminole Tribe of Florida’s Ah-Tah-Thi-Ki Museum will feature fine art and photography reflecting themes of leadership and respect. The exhibit at the New River Inn History Museum runs through January 5. Born on the Winnebago Indian Reservation, Erica Deitz is a member of the Seminole Tribe of Florida on her mother’s side and Winnebago and Ojibway heritage on her father’s side. Her work offers an indigenous perspective in a variety of art mediums in a way that is accessible to a wide audience. Deitz’s passion to express herself through art began at the age of three as she painted with accomplished Native American artist Jo M. North, her mother. At the age of 10, Deitz entered her first major art contest and received a bronze medal for her work from the International Children’s Art Exhibition in Tokyo, Japan. She has continued to win awards for her artwork throughout her career. Deitz’s work is showcased in both solo and group exhibitions across the world, including the permanent collection in the National Museum of the American Indian in Washington, D.C. and in the Lowe Art Museum in Miami. Several pieces of her art have been displayed alongside fellow Seminole Tribal artists in the “Seminole Art Scene from Frontlines,” “Patchwork Mosaic: An Indigenous Gathering of Seminole Masterworks,” and “Circle of Unity.” These exhibitions were a centerpiece of the History Fort Lauderdale Museum’s Native American Heritage Month celebration. In addition, one of Dietz’s original acrylic paintings was selected as cover art for the June 2021 internationally circulated magazine, Indian Gaming Magazine. Brian Zepeda became serious about learning photography in 1997 while employed at the Ah-Tah-Thi-Ki Museum. During his time there, he captured various items to send to interested collectors and institutes. His talents don’t end with his camera; his skills also include beadwork, woodcarving, silversmithing, leather smithing, building Chickees and more. Esteemed institutions and galleries have requested his beadwork as well as photography. Along with being a photographer and artist, Zepeda is a Seminole Tribe of Florida council/board liaison. Entry to the exhibit is free with general admission - $15 for adults; $12 for seniors and $7 for students (through age 22 with a valid student ID). Admission is always free for members, military and children ages six and under. Tickets are available online at http://bit.ly/HistoryFortLauderdaleTickets. History Fort Lauderdale is proud to host a variety of engaging multicultural experiences, year-round. It seeks to bring awareness to the community through both traveling exhibits and multiple permanent exhibits including “Women Trailblazers,” “Fort Lauderdale – the Early Years,” “The African American Experience,” “Fashion & Musical Theatre,” “From Dugouts to Dream Yachts: the story of boatbuilding along the New River,” Seminole Arts & Culture,” “New River Archaeology,” and “Take PRIDE, a retrospective on LGBTQ life in South Florida.” The nonprofit museum also hosts an artists’ collective collaborative space. “Yakne Seminoli” is sponsored by the following funds at the Community Foundation of Broward: Jan and Ed Crocker Unrestricted Fund, Leo M. and Alice J. Rutten Fund and The Frederick A. DeLuca Foundation Broward Community Fund. Timelessness: Old Masters, Modern + Contemporary Art Exhibition

Frascione Gallery 256 Worth Avenue, Via Amore, Suite O, Palm Beach, FL, United States
Frascione Gallery, founded in 1893 in Italy, presents its inaugural Palm Beach gallery exhibition featuring Old Masters, Contemporary, and Modern paintings and sculptures. Curated by Massimo Pulini in partnership with Aria Art Gallery (Florence), “Timelessness” explores how art transcends time and place. Art never ceases to tell different stories to everyone and this narrative is tied to a remote time and distant geography. The exhibition aims to serve as a laboratory for researching these connections, giving rise to dialectical forms between the past and present, near and remote.
