At the end of 2024, the City of Miami Beach, with the support of Commissioner Laura Dominguez honored the Pelican Hotel’s 30th anniversary by officially declaring December 5 as “Pelican Hotel Day.” This recognition celebrates the hotel’s three decades of contributions to Ocean Drive’s cultural and architectural legacy under the leadership of Renzo Rosso, founder of Diesel and The OTB Group.

During the ceremony, Commissioner Dominguez praised the Pelican Hotel’s enduring impact: “The Pelican Hotel has been a pillar of hospitality, style, and innovation since 1994. Under Renzo Rosso’s visionary leadership, it has become a symbol of Miami Beach’s cultural significance, offering guests a distinctive experience while preserving history and evolving. Today, we honor Renzo Rosso and the Pelican Hotel for shaping Ocean Drive and creating lasting memories.”

Renzo Rosso expressed his gratitude for the proclamation and reflected on the hotel’s beginnings: “When we first started, this place (Ocean Drive) had nothing”. He emphasized his commitment to sustainability and protecting the hotel’s heritage, stating, “Everything inside each room is vintage.” His focus remains on protecting the history of the Pelican Hotel while still evolving.

“Pelican Hotel Day” celebrates the Pelican Hotel as a cultural institution and acknowledges the impact it has had on the city of Miami Beach, highlighting its role in shaping the city’s vibrant arts and hospitality scene over the years.
