Prickly Pear Margarita

Sip into the vibrant spirit of Fort Lauderdale with The Famous Prickly Pear Margarita, a cocktail cherished by locals for over 27 years. Handcrafted to perfection, this iconic drink is made with an infusion of reposado tequila with prickly pears, triple sec and house-made sour mix.

Ingredients:
Sour Mix (makes 1 batch):
4 Cups fresh lime juice
1 Cup fresh Orange Juice
8 Cups Water
4 Cups Sugar
Bring 4 cups of water to a boil and stir in sugar until dissolved. Cool down and add the remaining 4 cups of boiled water, lime juice and orange juice.
Infused Tequila (makes 1 batch):
6 Prickly Pears, peeled
1 bottle of your favorite reposado tequila
Place tequila and Prickly Pears in an airtight container and let sit for 24 hours in a cool, dry place.
For one serving of The Famous Prickly Pear Margarita:
1.5 oz of the infused Tequila
.5 oz orange liqueur/triple sec
2 oz sour mix
Shake well over ice and strain over fresh ice in a glass with a salt rim and garnish with a lime wedge.
How to Make The Famous Prickly Pear Margarita
- Prep your glasses – If you want to salt the rim of your glass, simply run a lime or orange wedge around the edge and dip the rim in either coarse Kosher salt or sugar. Set the glass aside until ready to use.
- Combine the ice, prickly pear-infused Reposado tequila, sour mix, and Cointreau, in a cocktail shaker. If you do not have a shaker use a mason jar with a lid – works like a charm!
- Shake shake shake – give the mixture a good shake to combine flavors.
- Fill your rimmed glass with ice cubes & use a strainer to pour over the ice.
- Garnish with a slice of lime and enjoy!
