Their philosophy can be distilled into four words: clean, contemporary, delicious, and timeless. With influences drawn from extensive travels across Europe and the Caribbean, the De Marcos craft homes that resonate deeply with their clients by balancing sustainability, functionality, and personal touches.

Q: Where are you from, and what is your background?
A: I was born in Canada to European parents, grew up in Washington, D.C., and Louisiana, and later lived in Italy and New York City. My heritage is Italian and English, which greatly influences my design aesthetic, especially through summers spent with relatives in Europe.

Q: What inspired you to become a designer?
A: My passion began in the textile industry in Italy, where I worked for Miroglio Textiles, designing for American women’s wear and home furnishings. This early exposure to colors, textures, and patterns sparked my lifelong love for design.

Q: What formal training do you have?
A: I studied textile design in Italy and later earned my interior design degree from the New York School of Interior Design.

Q: How would you describe your design style?
A: Our work embodies clean, contemporary, and timeless aesthetics, prioritizing functionality and sustainability. We shun fleeting trends, focusing instead on creating homes that reflect our clients’ lifestyles, travel experiences, and family dynamics.

Q: How do you translate a client’s vision into a design?
A: It’s a deeply collaborative process. We start by understanding their lifestyle, preferences, and inspirations. From there, we combine our expertise with their vision to create designs that evoke tranquility and sophistication, while ensuring practicality and sustainability.

Design Philosophy

Q: Do you follow design trends?
A: We avoid trends and instead create enduring designs that stand the test of time. We balance aesthetics and functionality while integrating eco-friendly practices whenever possible.

Q: How do you source materials for your projects?
A: Each project is unique. We prioritize quality, sustainability, and craftsmanship, whether sourcing Italian marble, bespoke wallpapers, or local artisanal pieces.

Q: What role does sustainability play in your designs?
A: Sustainability is central to our work. We incorporate eco-friendly materials and designs, emphasizing long-lasting elements that blend seamlessly with the environment.

Q: What are your go-to paint colors?
A: For foundational tones, I love Benjamin Moore’s White Dove or Simply White, and for bold accents, BM Gunmetal works beautifully.

Q: How do you balance beauty and functionality in your projects?
A: Every element, from lighting to furniture placement, is carefully chosen to ensure the space is not only visually stunning but also practical for everyday use.

Tips & Insights

Q: What can instantly elevate a space?
A: Paint! Fresh paint transforms a room and sets the tone. Adding greenery and thoughtful lighting also creates a cozy, inviting atmosphere.

A: Eco-friendly and biophilic designs are gaining prominence. There’s also a renewed interest in nostalgic, retro styles from the 1950s and 1960s.

Q: What’s your favorite flooring material?
A: Natural materials, such as wood or stone, are my top choices for their timeless beauty and durability.
