TRINITY 100 POP-UP CARTIER MIAMI

Cartier is marking the 100th anniversary of its iconic Trinity collection with a special pop-up experience in Miami from December 4–8, 2024. The immersive Trinity 100 experience celebrates the rich history of the collection, taking visitors from present day back to 1924, when Louis Cartier designed the first piece of Trinity jewelry. The experience is comprised of five distinct spaces: A room dedicated to Jean Cocteau — who popularized the collection in the 1930s with his now iconic double-stacked pinky rings, and another to Trinity’s place in pop culture throughout time. A third space pays homage to the number three, a pattern that repeats itself throughout the Maison’s creations. The immersion continues with a showcase of jewelry and objects from the Cartier Collection. After immersing themselves in the world of Trinity, visitors will have the opportunity to try on creations from the collection. Visitors will be able to reserve a timeslot for complimentary admission at www.cartier.com.

JEFFREY DEITCH PRESENTS AUSTIN LEE: PSYCHOMACHIA

Austin Lee explores human emotion and psychology through a blend of digital and traditional art techniques, creating vibrant paintings, sculptures, and videos. In this exhibition, he delves into the hyperreality of the digital age, using 3-D and virtual reality software to develop pieces that are then painted on canvas or fabricated in materials like resin and bronze. Inspired by a visit to Italy’s Giotto Chapel and the allegorical themes of Prudentius’s Psychomachia, Lee’s works reflect on virtues, vices, and raw emotions. Notable pieces include Lion with Blue Eyes (2024), evoking strength, and In Bed (2024), capturing vulnerability. The central piece, Blue Fountain (2022-2024), was previously showcased at the Lotte Museum of Art in Seoul. A mezzanine series of new video works deepens the exhibition’s exploration of surveillance and self-reflection.

MARIO AYALA MUCHO MUCHO AMOR (BUMPER STICKER), 2024

Los Angeles-based artist Mario Ayala creates hyperrealistic paintings that mimic cars, food trucks, towing signs and bumper stickers, to irreverently pair non-artistic formats with highly skilled painterly technique. For this public art project, he enlarged a painting featuring a portrait of the deceased Puerto Rican astrologer and TV sensation Walter Mercado. Depicted in a radiant aura from a realm beyond, Mercado evokes a sense of calm amidst a chaotic traffic jam – a fitting anticipation of Miami’s annual Art Week congestion.

Location: NE 2nd Ave. & NE 40th St, Miami, FL 33137

JILL MULLEADY PESCA A LA ENCENDIDA, 2024

Uruguay-born, Paris-based artist Jill Mulleady collaborated with ICA Miami and the Miami Design District to create this large-scale billboard visible on the highly transited I-95 highway. The work reproduces her 2024 painting Pesca a la Encandilada (Dazzled Fishing) as seen in an exhibition at Sant’Andrea de Scaphis — a Roman church that served as a place of worship for the folks whose labor at the port supplied fish and goods to the community. The tenebrosity of the painting’s multicolor skies, refracted on the choppy ocean’s surface, contrasts with the bright flame deployed by the fisherman to lure fish into his net. The scene recalls Mulleady’s fishing activities in her native Uruguay, and instills the rundown temple with scenes of dynamism and secular life.

Location: 3704 NE 2nd Ave, Miami, FL 33137 (South Facade)

BONY RAMIREZ MUSA COCCINEA TEMPORARY MURAL

Musa Coccinea takes its name from the scientific designation of the Scarlet Banana, a plant that belongs to the same family as the common banana but is distinguished by its vibrant yellow flower. The mural features a figure that stands tall and graceful before the viewer, inspired by classic portraiture. This figure commands attention and respect, surrounded by palm leaves and plantain trees, creating a striking contrast with her lush dress. She embodies Caribbean beauty and power. By using the scientific name of this plant, Bony honors its origins, reflecting his dedication to celebrating the Caribbean and its roots. This mural is part of a series featuring three Musa paintings, with “Musa” being the first name in the classification of banana trees. “Coccinea” refers to the specific variation, while “Musa” in Spanish means “muse,” symbolizing the strength and beauty of the female figures depicted, each appearing alone yet powerful. Bony Ramirez is a Dominican-born artist who lives and works in New York. Ramirez paints surreal images of contemporary Caribbean life, as well as reimagining colonial histories. He engages with Western European painting traditions as a way to think about the colonial influence still present in the Caribbean.
