Miami-based Artist Marielle Plaisir to showcase “Rhapsody for a Beloved World” at Cadillac Hotel & Beach Club for Miami Art Week 2024
Nestled along the iconic Miami Beach Boardwalk, the Cadillac Hotel & Beach Club, Autograph Collection, stands as a shining example of Art Deco elegance, offering guests a seamless blend of historic charm and modern luxury. With its preserved 1940s design elements, lush tropical landscaping, and oceanfront setting, the hotel provides the perfect backdrop for a culturally enriching experience during Miami Art Week 2024. This year, Cadillac Hotel will play a key role in the city’s vibrant art scene as it participates in the fifth edition of “No Vacancy” in collaboration with the City of Miami Beach and the Miami Beach Visitor and Convention Authority (MBVCA). As one of only 12 hotels selected for this initiative, Cadillac Hotel & Beach Club will host the acclaimed artist Marielle Plaisir to showcase “Rhapsody for a Beloved World.” Plaisir was born in 1978 in Le Havre, France, grew up in the French Caribbean and now resides in Miami.
Through a lively, interdisciplinary approach, Plaisir’s “Rhapsody for a Beloved World” strives to challenge the past and offers a hopeful vision for the future. This powerful collage captures the contrast between innocence and resilience through vibrant Caribbean colors and scenes of children at play. The piece draws inspiration from the complex history of racial segregation, referencing a true story of two Black boys wrongfully accused of rape in 1958 for simply playing with a white girl. In her artwork, friendship flourishes beyond boundaries, untouched by prejudice, presenting a vision of unity and genuine connection.
Set against the backdrop of Cadillac Hotel, Plaisir highlights the interconnections between humans, the universality of fractured identities, and the power of recognizing inner worlds by merging intricate botanical images of lush foliage with salvaged vintage black-and-white photographs and landscape elements.
Plaisir’s work celebrates the beauty of human connection in a world often divided. “Through this experience, I aim to create works that engage viewers not only visually but also intellectually, encouraging a dialogue about the complexities of identity, culture and shared spaces,” Plaisir said. “The ‘No Vacancy’ program in Miami Beach offers a unique platform to bring art into the public space, connecting with the community in ways that are both challenging and profoundly rewarding.”
Located just a short drive from the Miami Beach Convention Center, along the Miami Beach Boardwalk, Cadillac Hotel & Beach Club, Autograph Collection is a 357-room modern oceanfront resort. Its preserved art deco aesthetic, lush greenery and inviting pool areas create a distinctive atmosphere for guests to engage with Plaisir’s work, sparking conversations around unity and connection.
