Learn about the landmark people, places and legal cases that built Broward County in History Fort Lauderdale’s newest exhibition, “Justice from The Sea to The Sawgrass: A History of the Broward County Judiciary.” This free exhibition will be on view at the New River Inn (231 SW 2nd Ave. in Downtown Fort Lauderdale) from May 1 - 30 before it moves to its permanent home in the Broward County Courthouse.
History buffs will learn about the Broward County Judiciary’s rich (and sometimes, storied) past beginning with its incorporation in 1915. Through archival photographs, artifacts and legal documents, visitors will view the original buildings housing the county’s judicial system, learn about Broward’s first judge, Jacob F. Bunn (1915-1920), its first female judicial officer, Eunice C. Rencher, the first female judge to be elected to a state bench, Mildred Akerman, and first two African American judges, Thomas J. Reddick, Jr., and Alcee Hastings. Also on display are several legal documents, articles and photos documenting the highly publicized national investigation of the death of celebrity Anna Nicole Smith and the infamous 2000 Florida Election Recount. Judicial robes and other personal effects from several previous judges and legal representatives add to the exhibit’s significance.

History Fort Lauderdale is open seven days a week from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., with docent-guided tours offered daily at 1, 2, and 3 p.m. Group walking tours are available upon special request. Admission is $15 for adults; $12 for seniors; and $7 for students (through age 22 with a valid student ID). Admission is free for members, military personnel, and children aged six and under. “Summer lovin’ had me a blast.” Starting Friday, May 15, CityPlace Doral is sealed with sunshine with the debut of its “Summer Lovin’,” free, seasonal art installation. “Summer Lovin’” transforms the Center into a vibrant, photo-ready escape through Aug. 16, 2026, bringing a playful expression of love and color to the heart of Doral.
Love at first sight! Upon entering CityPlace Doral, visitors will be greeted by 186 custom-made overhead hearts, overhead above the boulevard in a mix of red, pink, yellow and purple hues. Designed by Gilded Group Decor, the sweeping display sets the tone for a summer of love and Instagrammable moments. Guests can capture a one-of-a-kind photo opportunity in front of an oversized heart-shaped lock.
The Oasis experience in the Center’s Fountain Plaza will be adorned with a custom-built bridge that takes the installation to new heights. The structure features four walkable bridges and a center platform, each bridge side panel finished in a different color to mirror the hearts overhead. Fencing along each panel invites guests to hang their own love locks, creating a living, ever-growing display that builds throughout the summer.
The Oasis experience at CityPlace Doral’s Fountain Plaza features a relaxing, open-air atmosphere for friends and family to enjoy grab-and-go bites from CityPlace Doral’s restaurants and enjoy South Florida’s weather. The Oasis incorporates Adirondack chairs, tables, umbrellas and oversized games such as chess, cornhole, Connect Four and more.
As a nod to the beloved love-lock tradition that anchors the entire “Summer Lovin'” experience, visitors will have the opportunity to purchase exclusive heart-shaped locks throughout the installation, thoughtfully designed to create lasting memories.
“Summer Lovin'” runs May 15 through Aug. 16. The installation is free and open to the public. Guests are encouraged to snap a photo, tag @CityPlaceDoral and share their moments from the installation throughout the season.

The special event, hosted by previous “Take PRIDE!” honoree FayWhat?!, will kick off Wilton Manors Stonewall PRIDE Parade & Street Festival activities and pay tribute to some of South Florida’s most impactful LGBTQ+ leaders with surprise performances. The stage presentation will include the first public performance for the newly crowned Mizz OutSFL. Attendees will also receive a sneak preview of the exhibition “Coming Out of the Shadows” that will run from May 29 – June 30 at Galleria Fort Lauderdale (2414 East Sunrise Blvd).
This year’s “Take PRIDE!” honorees who have made significant contributions to the South Florida community are:

Schultz, police chief, City of Fort Lauderdale; Nicole Stodard, artistic director of Thinking Cap Theatre; and Tatiana Williams, founder and executive director of TransInclusive Group, Inc.
The “Take PRIDE!” 2026 exhibit “Coming Out of the Shadows” will feature photos and ephemera that tell the stories of the tumultuous political climate of 1960s pre-Stonewall Fort Lauderdale. The exhibit, a collaboration with Stonewall National Museum, Archives & Library and Florida International University, is curated by Fred Fejes, professor emeritus of multimedia studies at Florida Atlantic University and Julio Capo, Jr., an author and associate professor of history at Florida International University.
The exhibition will be free and open to the public during mall hours.
“Take PRIDE!” is presented by Galleria Fort Lauderdale with support from The Our Fund Foundation, Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Hollywood, HotSpots Media Group/Happening Out Television Network, OUT SFL, Hunters Nightclubs, Gulf Stream Distillery, Ethos Greek Bistro, and GPR | Goodman Public Relations.
