The Ritz-Carlton South Beach: Women in the Spotlight

This Art Week, The Ritz-Carlton, South Beach, and The Ritz-Carlton Bal Harbour, Miami, shine a spotlight on the creativity and power of women artists with two immersive art experiences that blend cultural engagement with luxury hospitality.

The Ritz-Carlton, South Beach: Women in the Spotlight

As part of its ongoing “Women in the Spotlight” series, The Ritz-Carlton, South Beach will unveil a site-specific installation by Amanda Phingbodhipakkiya, titled As Her Hands Move, Her Heart Beats in the Rhythm of Monsoons. This award-winning artist’s piece celebrates matrilineal legacies and the transmission of cultural wisdom. The installation, set to be revealed on December 3rd, will be a centerpiece of the hotel’s lobby throughout Art Week, inviting guests to experience an evocative tribute to the strength and resilience of women.

Phingbodhipakkiya, known for her transdisciplinary approach, incorporates motifs inspired by her research journey in North and Northeast Thailand. The installation features crimson knots cascading over rattan vessels, evoking themes of nourishment, community, and intergenerational knowledge. The artist collaborated with Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) elders, integrating their stories and contributions into the piece, enhancing its depth and cultural resonance.

Complementing the unveiling of Phingbodhipakkiya’s installation, The Ritz-Carlton, South Beach will introduce the inaugural SEEN Award in partnership with Artadia, a nonprofit dedicated to supporting visual artists. The SEEN Award is an annual $15,000 grant for a woman-identifying artist, designed to address gender imbalances in the art world and provide both financial and community support. This initiative aligns with the hotel’s commitment to amplifying diverse voices and ensuring women artists are recognized for their contributions to contemporary culture.

Additionally, a limited edition print by Summer Wheat, a previous Artadia Awardee, will be displayed during Art Week. Titled Watering Weeds, Wheat’s work intertwines themes of labor, leisure, and collective healing, further reflecting the hotel’s dedication to showcasing meaningful, impactful art.

“This year, we are thrilled to celebrate the exceptional contributions of women in the arts through Amanda’s impactful work,” said Dayssi Olarte de Kanavos, co-owner of The Ritz-Carlton, South Beach and co-founder of the Women’s Power Series. “Her work speaks to the strength of women and reflects our commitment to amplifying diverse voices and experiences in the arts.”

The Ritz-Carlton Bal Harbour: Puzzles Redefined

Meanwhile, The Ritz-Carlton Bal Harbour is transforming the traditional art gallery experience by partnering with JIGGY Puzzles, a female-founded brand that has redefined how art is appreciated. From December 3rd to 8th, guests can immerse themselves in a pop-up puzzle gallery featuring vibrant works from nine female artists, each beautifully framed by Framebridge, another trailblazing female-founded company.

The exhibit brings puzzle art to life with masterpieces such as Chi Town Chic by Katy Hirschfeld and Plants Over Plans by Maggie Stephenson. Guests can explore works that draw inspiration from various artistic traditions, spanning digital collages, watercolor, and multimedia creations. Visitors are also encouraged to indulge in festive-themed puzzles across the property, offering a laid-back yet elegant escape during Miami Art Week.

Amanda’s installation at The Ritz-Carlton, South Beach, and the pop-up gallery at The Ritz-Carlton Bal Harbour will open to the public on December 3rd, coinciding with the start of Miami Art Week. Visitors are invited to explore these thoughtfully curated exhibitions that celebrate creativity, innovation, and the invaluable contributions of women in the arts.
