Originally built in the 16th century as part of the Santa Catalina de Alejandría Cathedral’s presbytery, the colonial mansion was reimagined by Caroline Soetaert Tchekhoff, an entrepreneur whose personal path to healing inspired every element of the project. After surviving a near-paralyzing accident in 2007, Soetaert Tchekhoff credits yoga, Ayurvedic medicine, and conscious living for her recovery. Her vision for Casa Carolina was clear: to offer a sanctuary that honors Cartagena’s heritage while fostering transformative wellness.

The hotel features a dedicated Yoga Shala offering Hatha, Vinyasa, Ashtanga, Kundalini, and Yin yoga, alongside weekly guided meditation and pranayama sessions. Guests can immerse themselves in traditional and Ayurvedic spa treatments, with every element—down to the eco-friendly Moroccan cotton robes and herbal-infused products. After their treatments, guests
are invited to experience full-circle nourishment at the Just B Wellness Café, a plant-forward, Ayurvedic-inspired café open to both guests and the public. The menu features cold-pressed juices, gluten- and dairy-free dishes, and signature drinks crafted from local herbs and tropical fruits by head barista and coffee connoisseur, Angel Fagundez.
