American Heritage Schools’ Pre-Medical Program Celebrates 25 Years of Holiday Wishes for Pediatric Cancer Patients
American Heritage Schools’ Pre-Medical Program marked an incredible milestone this year: 25 years of spreading joy and hope to young patients and their families through its annual service project to benefit pediatric cancer patients at the Salah Foundation Children’s Hospital at Broward Health Medical Center.
The initiative consists of three key events: the Superhero Party, the Pre-Med Gala, and the Annual Holiday Party. Together, these events created a meaningful journey of care and celebration for the children battling cancer. From the Superhero Party alone, the Pre-Med Society has raised and donated more than $1 million to support pediatric cancer patients, funding improvements at Broward Health Medical Center.
Highlights from this year’s event, in celebration of the 25th anniversary, include:
Superhero Party: A Celebration of Strength
The festivities began with the Annual Superhero Party, where pediatric cancer patients embraced their inner heroes. For 25 years, this tradition has allowed children to craft ‘letters to Santa’ and engage in playful, uplifting activities. Over the program’s history, the Pre-Med Society has raised more than $1 million to support these young warriors, helping fund critical improvements at Broward Health Medical Center. One of the most impactful contributions was funding two new pediatric playrooms, creating safe, cheerful spaces where young patients can play and simply be kids.
The Annual Pre-Med Gala: A Night of Elegance and Generosity
The 7th Annual Pre-Med Gala raised a record-breaking $41,000 through donations and silent auctions. This black-tie affair brought together parents, students, and community leaders for an evening of dining, dancing, and fundraising. This year’s gala set a record, emphasizing the program’s unwavering commitment to providing for pediatric cancer patients.
25th Annual Holiday Party: A Heartwarming Tradition
The 25th Annual Holiday Party brought joy to 17 pediatric cancer patients and their families. Students spent $500 on gifts for each child, totaling more than 160 presents. The Pre-Med Society, under the guidance of Dr. Carlos Pulido, director of American Heritage Schools’ Pre-Medical Program, organized the day with activities such as gingerbread cookie decorating, ornament making, bracelet crafting, games, and festive treats. Special guests included cheerleaders from the Florida Panthers, Stanley the Panther, Victory the Rat, and the team’s sub-director of marketing. Broward Health Medical Center’s staff, including the chief operating officer, chief of nursing, chief of physician affairs, and chief of hematology and oncology, also joined the celebration. The highlight of the party was an acapella performance by the American Heritage Schools’ choir, with Pre-Med Society student Noah Duro Andre delivering a solo of “Oh Holy Night.”
“The courage of these young patients inspires our students. These events allow them to connect with the children, share joy, and, most importantly, offer support to kids who need it the most,” said Dr. Pulido. “It’s an experience our students carry with them long after they leave American Heritage Schools.”
The dedication of the Pre-Med Society and its students has touched the lives of countless families, with over 500 American Heritage Schools’ students participating in the program’s 25-year history. This year’s celebration was not only a testament to their commitment but also a reminder of the transformative power of kindness.
