St. Bartholomew’s Conservancy Presents It’s Virtual Organ Concert

Virtual
Many of you had the pleasure of attending our Gala Organ Concert last May. The Concert, featuring The Philadelphia Orchestra conducted by David Robertson, organist Paolo Bourdignon, and countertenor Anthony Roth Costanzo, demonstrated unequivocally why the St. Bartholomew’s site, a National Historic Landmark, deserves restoration and preservation. Audience members reported physically feeling, as well as hearing, how the monumental St. Bartholomew’s pipe organ (12,422 pipes, the largest in New York City) is inseparably woven into the church building’s architecture, including the recently restored and illuminated Great Dome. Last summer, so many people heard the Concert as it was being “encore streamed” from The Philadelphia Orchestra Digital Stage. Now, for two weeks beginning on Wednesday, February 15th, you can do the same by logging on to the encore streaming being offered for free on the Conservancy’s website, http://www.stbconservancy.org/. The Program is dazzling! Chosen to showcase the pipe organ’s extraordinary range and depth, the music spans four centuries. It includes works by Gabrieli, Bach, and Handel, French composers Gigout, Fauré, and Duruflé, American composer Amy Beach, and to top it all off, the last movement of Saint-Saëns magnificent Organ Symphony followed by Elgar’s rousing Pomp and Circumstance. We hope you will enjoy this stellar offering in the comfort of your home and will also take time to explore other parts of the Conservancy website. Alongside our six-part film series, Prodigious Pairings: Past and Present, the website brims with information about the Conservancy mission and about the National Historic Landmark that is both an architectural gem embellishing midtown Park Avenue and a uniquely powerful musical instrument. Wishing you hours of happy encore streaming!
